The Cricut cutting machines work when cartridges are slotted in. There are two basic types of cartridges, font and shape, and the Animal Kingdom cartridge is a shape cartridge. Crafters simply choose the shape and size they want to cut out, feed in paper, press a button and the machine cuts out what you have asked for. Maybe not so impressive if all you have to cut out is a square or a triangle, but fantastic when trying to cut out complicated shapes like that of different animals.
Doing such work by hand takes patience and time and dexterity with scissors. Using this cartridge means more time can be spent actually on the project rather than getting backache as you concentrate on not chopping off some animal’s tail etc.
Once you have the cutouts you wanted there is a whole variety of crafting projects you can take on including in particular child themed ones. The animals are extremely well done and there are a large number of them, including but not limited to pets like cats and dogs. If your child is in to crocodiles, hippos, lions, zebras, rhinos or bears this cartridge has a cutout of them. There are also animals related to the farm such as cow, pig and horse. There is a personality to the cutouts, the monkey looks mischievous with a banana, the goldfish has a bowl with water in it.
There are several ways the cartridge can be used to create educational games and figures or just to make a project come alive. Creative features like shadow, shadow blackout, border, sound, head and bookmark open up artisitc opportunities. Create bookmarks that are fun and playful either for someone who collects them or for your own use when reading. Handy to have for that favorite recipe book, a child’s school book or to mark the page of a scrapbook you are working on. Use them to create interesting borders.
Children love moving shapes around on felt boards or magnetic boards, there are many types of figures and letters you can buy from toy stores that have velcro or magnets on the back for children to play and learn from. But they cost money. Using the Animal Kingdom cartridge you can make animal figures that are pasted on cardboard or laminated so that they endure, put a magnet or velcro on the back and you have homemade fun animal shapes your child can enjoy and learn about.
