At the moment there are 3 machines by Provo Craft and all 3 are good at what they do. The small and original is the Personal Electronic Cutter, then there is the Expression the larger model, or the Create, a hybrid model. There are some things all three do for you. Cutouts are reliant on the cartridges you need to buy and each one comes with a keyboard overlay. Cartridges fit in all three machines. The basic operation of each machine is also the same, and is easy to do, leaving you more time to design rather than cut or fiddle with machinery. There are other accessories apart from the cartridges most of which can be used on all 3 machines also. Inks, tools such as the spatula, Design studio software, replacement blades can all be used on any one.
There are of course differences between them though. Each machine can make different size cutouts. The Personal Cutter ranges from 1 to 5 1/2 inches going up in half inch increments. Create can range from 1/4 inch to 11 1/2 inches going up in quarter increments. Expression has the largest range going from 1/4 inch to 23 1/2 inches in quarter inch increments. So if your designs require a larger range in size, the Expression would work best for you.
The machines all vary in size and weight. The original and Create are smaller and are easily portable. So if you travel while you design they can come with you. Or if you do not have a crafting room but have to go wherever there is room they are also a good choice. The Expression is heavier and bigger so is fine if you have a permanent place for it to go.
Each machine has different functions and modes that can help your cricut designs, with the Expression having the most variety. Then Create comes next then the Personal Cutter. To find out exactly what design functions each offer look at handbooks or go to the cricut website.
Price is very different between them also. The Personal Cutter is the least coming in around $300. Create is usually $400 and Expression is $500. However it is possible to get any one of them for less by looking for special deals, sales and looking online.
