The Cricut Expression machine is made by Provo Craft and is often on the wish-list of teachers as a classroom tool. It is often used by crafters and scrapbookers and has some great accessories such as the Classmate line of cartridges that have educational purposes. It makes teaching so much easier and saves the school money as teachers are able to create their own resources with ease and speed.
For example take a classroom’s bulletin board. Decorating a board is expensive and cutting out lettering for headings and pictures takes a lot of time when it has to be done by hand. Displays are important in the classroom for teaching the children, or celebrating their achievements and borders, lettering and decoration are important. The Cricut Expression cuts letters and shapes in many different sizes from a quarter of an inch all the way up to nearly 24 inches. All teachers need is the paper or card.
As well as being able to cut basic shapes and letters the Classmate cartridges which slot into the machine are made specifically for the purpose of teaching, education and classroom use. Suitable for early education such as preschool and Kindergarten up to elementary and even high school. They can help teach social studies, languages, phonics, cursive and many other subjects.
For example there is a cartridge called 50 States which a teacher can use to cut out each state and use for displays, used to make a puzzle the students can try putting together or as a fun quiz to see if students can identify states by their outline. Great for either social studies or geography classes.
There is also a Word Builders cartridge for elementary students which can help with phonetic, spelling and language skills. Teachers can make puzzles where letters have to be put together or groups of letters creating correct combination forming words or phonetic sounds.
There are a multitude of other ways the classmate cartridge line can be used by teachers and educators, or even parents at home wanting to home school or give extra input to their children’s education. Making puzzles, games,, displays, games like Go Fish, bookmarks, target boards…there are so many ways to use the machine and its cartridges in the classroom.
