There are shape cartridges and font cartridges and All Mixed Up is a font cartridge. The characters are playful in style derived from doodlebugs meaning that users of the Cricut machines can have some fun with this font. It is almost childlike in nature but totally readable with lower and upper case letters, punctuations, some symbols and words. The words are ones that are often used in paper crafting.

This is essentially a tool to allow crafters to design components for their scrapbooks or other paper crafts while they are traveling and are away from the Cricut Design Studio feature on their computer. Many people think about buying a used Cricut machine instead of buying new at the high retail price that ranges from $300 to $500 depending on the machine you are looking for. You can find used machines online on sites like eBay, Kijiji and CraigsList, they come up when crafters decide to upgrade to the next model. Usually there are good deals to be made and the machines are in perfectly acceptable conditions, but here are some things to think about as you shop online.

When a person decides to take up scrap booking it is an artistic way to collate memories using memorabilia, photographs and so on into an album. Along with those items a story flows so that it can be looked at and enjoyed in years to come. It really has become an art form and there are many tools out there to help scrapbookers create their work. Die cutting machines have become particularly popular as they let you embellish your work with letters, images and phrasing cut from different materials.
There are both electronic and manual die cutters and out of the electronic types, the Cricut range from Provo Craft is well loved. They work with cartridges therefore not requiring a crafter to own a computer and are simple to use. There are three Cricut machines, the original, the Create and the Expression. The Expression is the top of the line Cricut machine.
Unlike the original which could only take a half 12″x12″ sheet of paper, the Cricut Expression machine can do both 12″x12″ and 12″x24″. Another main difference between them is that it is a lot bigger. The original and Create have the benefits of being portable which the Expression does not. It is meant to have one home, or one school place or one media room.
Of course the Expression still cuts with no computer and the cartridges all fit in any of the three machines so there is still a fantastic range of shapes and fonts. The Expression can cut in more varying sizes than the other two machines so you can have tiny shapes or much larger ones, great for banner making or school display boards. It also has the same sticky mat which until recently I viewed as a disadvantage compared to other brand diecut machines. However I used a Make Memories Slice not long ago and realized that without that stickiness the machine has to be babysat. Perhaps one day a better mat design will come along from Cricut as when cutting on delicate paper, the sticky mat is a pain.
The Expression is the most expensive of the line retailing at around $500, but if you shop around particularly online, you can find better deals. So if you have money to spend on your crafting addiction the Expression is a great choice to make!

You can enjoy the best of both worlds if you get the Cricut Gypsy as it allows you to travel or carry on with a busy lifestyle, while still being able to design for your scrapbooks or paper craft projects. It may be small in size, but the Gypsy has a large capacity for your creativity. It can store thousands of cartridges or up to ten thousand designs you have created, all on a device that is only a little bigger than a blackberry.
It plugs into your computer at home which is how you can get your cricut cartridge onto it, get any updates and so on. You can also save your designs on your main computer if you have Design Studio software. The Cricut Gypsy means you can carry around your scrapbooking ideas wherever you go and design to your heart’s content. Slant, rotate, weld, stretch, change sizes and more.
It would be a good idea to buy the bundles that you can get for the Gypsy which have all the tools you need to efficiently use this device. For example the package includes the stylus to use on the touch screen, a cover to protect it, a car charger for when you are on the go, an AC adapter, a carry bag for everything, a cord that connects the Gypsy to your computer and the all important instructions! By getting all of it in a bundle you save money and time. You also get a six month manufacturer limited warranty with it.
There is a great search function on the Gypsy which is easy to use and makes searching for images simple and quick. The screen previews the image you are selecting before you make a final choice. Any owner of a cricut cutting machine will appreciate Design Studio Software but it is important you understand how to make the software work for you and not get overwhelmed by it all. Though the manual helps with setting up the software on your computer and with basic functions, it does not help with other problems you may have. Perhaps you have an idea in your head but you are not sure how to use the software to get there and this then can waste your time as you try and figure it out.

Cricut Design Studio’s most used and enjoyed function is the weld option where crafters can weld letters together to make words or of course shapes together to make new images. When making words with letters can you do it one of two ways, manipulate all the letters together as one image or bring in each letter separately and change each letter individually.
