One of the design functions on the Cricut design studio software is the ability to weld. For example you can weld letters together to make a word, and there are two ways to do it. One way is by bringing in each letter as a separate image that can be manipulated and the other is by working as if the word is one image to be manipulated.

When letters are all in one group you can weld a word by following these stages.

• Select the word by clicking with the mouse.
• Set the space (Kerning) between the letters at either .005 or 0 then apply.
• The letters should now be touching or even overlapping in someplace. Click on each letter. You can tell which letter you have selected because it becomes a dashes line. Use the nudge arrows to move each letter so it is overlapping a little.
• Click on the whole word again and under shape properties click the welding box.
• Cutting is shown by dark lines, the welding is shown by light lines.

Sometimes you might want to work on each letter or picture separately and cricut design allows you to do this:

• Choose the first letter (remember to press enter when you are ready to add a new letter so that you deselect).
• Now choose your next letter. You can see now that you can manipulate each individual letter without affecting the last one.
• Keep adding letters remembering to use enter to deselect.
• You do not need to use the kerning feature, just change the selected letter to the look and size you want then click the weld box.
• Do the same for the next letter then move it so it overlaps the first. Click the welding box.
• Do until all letters have been done.
• If you preview your work you will see a dark line for the cut and light lines for the welding. Important: If you notice one of the letters is solid and filled in, this means you forgot to click the welding box so you need to go back to that letter and click it.

People that have Cricut design studio love the welding function and it is one of the most used functions of the software.
